The Birth of a Beast (2008)

KKR, MI, and the Dynasty Years (2012–2020)
This time period saw the rise of the league’s two biggest dynasties. In 2012, the Kolkata Knight Riders won their first IPL title by chasing down CSK’s total with five wickets in hand. Sunil Narine’s spin wizardry earned him Player of the Tournament. Business Standard: Then came the Mumbai Indians. During this time, the Mumbai Indians became the most successful franchise in IPL history, winning five titles, including back-to-back championships in 2019 and 2020. They were only the second team to do this, after the Rajasthan Royals. Topend Sports CSK won their fifth title in 2023, showing that MS Dhoni’s team just won’t go away. myKhel KKR’s Roar and RCB’s Moment (2024–2025): IPL 2024 saw KKR’s stunning comeback—Shreyas Iyer’s side restricted Sunrisers Hyderabad to just 113 runs in the final and chased it down with eight wickets to spare, with Sunil Narine winning MVP for his all-round brilliance. And then the moment that had been 17 years in the making happened. In 2025, the Royal Challengers Bengaluru finally won a title after a long wait. They beat the Punjab Kings by just 6 runs in a thrilling final at the Narendra Modi Stadium. Fans of myKhel and Virat Kohli all over India cried tears of joy.
The Story Goes On: IPL 2026
The 2026 season, formally known as TATA IPL 2026, is the 19th season of the league. It will run from March 28 to May 31 and will have 10 teams playing in 74 matches. The IPL is the most popular T20 tournament right now and the second-highest-paying sports league in the world.
